Dear you,
I am in the mustard chair with the throw over my knees writing this because I have sent the text you are afraid to send. The one that says I cannot come. The one that feels like you are letting down a whole town.
From my chair to yours, I see you. Canceling is not the same as not caring. Sometimes it is how you keep the caring alive for another day.
What I want you to hear
You are allowed to choose the chair over the parking lot. You are allowed to be a person with a nervous system, not a calendar app.
The people who love you want you, not the performance of you. The ones who only want the performance were never going to be soothed by your exhaustion anyway.
A small ritual after you send the text
- Put the phone face down.
- Sit.
- Name one true reason, without a courtroom: my body needs quiet.
- Drink water.
- Do not use the extra hour to punish yourself with chores unless chores would actually help.
That is grounding for anxiety after a cancel. It keeps the shame from renting the room.
Affirmation
I can disappoint a plan without becoming a disappointment.
If canceling is covering something heavier — a wish to disappear, a sense that the world would be better without you — please do not carry that alone. Open Help worldwide and use the line for your country. I mean that from this chair with my whole chest.
Come back to the calm hub when you want a voice that will not ask you to be impressive.
